Halo

Self-initiated concept product / engineering demonstration. Halo controls nothing: there is no hub, no cloud account and no hardware behind it. Every room, device, temperature, energy reading and automation is fictional demo data, and the front-door "camera" is a drawn mockup rather than a video feed.

Halo is a smart-home app. A dashboard shows live light count, power draw and the front door; scenes move lights, blinds and heating together; each room opens into full controls; an energy view breaks the day down hour by hour; and an automation editor builds rules from a trigger and an action.

Home controls should feel like objects, not forms. Brightness is a tall column you push up with a thumb, temperature is a dial you sweep around its centre, and blinds and colour temperature are sliders inside a drag-dismissable sheet. The interface is dark and ambient, with a glow that follows the active scene, and the tab bar stands down whenever a sheet is open so nothing covers the control you are using.

React 19 and TypeScript bundled with Vite, animated with Motion — a web-hosted mobile simulation, not a compiled binary. Devices, scenes, rules and the armed state live in one typed reducer, so a scene is simply a patch applied across many devices and every view derives from the same source. The dial and the column are built on pointer events with capture, so a drag keeps working after the finger leaves the control.
